This things Charlie Sheen is saying are too funny, but I feel really bad for the guy. He is going through a really tough time i’m sure but the media circus around him is probably driving him crazy! This gave me a laugh though.
So last semester I took sometime off school and decided to pull away from technology and being part of the Internet. I found it actually quite easy when I wasn’t on my laptop everyday doing school work, however, after my laptop broke in January and I started school again I can’t believe how hard it is to even get myself online. We all say that we can’t live without our phones and computers but like we were talking about in class there is just a coming down period and then it’s hard to actually use all the gadgets again. Hopefully this is a good sign and there will be no need for any computer or Facebook rehab in the near future. BUT if people keep talking about how addicted to their phone and computer they are, we might have to create some. Who’s knows it may be like weed, so I’ve heard, just a mental addiction.
I think that Joe Rogan may be on to something (warning explicit language and content 18A)… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62y-BdIue2o&playnext=1&list=PL7F44449C4525543D
Joe Rogan’s stand-up touches on some points of evolution that Kelly didnt think of and he may have some good theories. I am definately a ‘dumb person’ because I have NO IDEA how any of the technology I use works and if I didnt have experts to help me things would slowly break and I would eventually be left with nothing!
Heres only part of Joe’s stand-up act if you have netflix the entire thing is on there if you think this part is funny I would suggest watching the entire thing, it is stand-up that makes you think.
#313 Showing old people how to do something on a computer
I was just skimming through The Book of Awesome earlier, while waiting for a ride, and there are so many things that I do think are awesome that I always overlook. the one about showing old people stuff on a computer is so hilarious to me because I love doing it and I just love to watch old people use computers. My dad who is 66 is so amazing at so many things but using a computer is not one of them. Watching my father type with two fingers pounding the keyboard is too funny that I just stare and usually end up creeping him out. But showing my parents and older family member how to do stuff on a computer seems so gratifying because they are constantly amazed by what you can do on it, especially the internet. I will always regret showing my father YouTube and facebook because he can now monitor me on facebook and continues almost every week so send me links to funny videos he found on YouTube. However, in a funny way it’s a new form of connection that we have since I’ve moved out and I actually enjoy watching his computer savvy grow every day. But don’t even get me started on showing them skype, no way I want them to be able to see me when they call at 8 on a Saturday morning after my roommates 21st birthday!!!
I can’t believe how intimidated I am by blogging. Every time I sit down to write a blog I stare at the screen and write 8 different starting sentences then delete them. Even though blogging is pretty much anonymous there is so much pressure to write something interesting and something that people will like. Even though I feel like I’m a pretty “connected” person I don’t have anything that I think people would find interesting to talk about for the most part. I do however love reading other blogs and posts so hopefully one day I will take some inspiration from those and soon become a blogging guru!!
Just comming back from Calgary I have realized that in Lethbridge I have a safe little bubble. Although I am always ‘connected’ and can interact with the world 24/7 the life I live in Lethbridge isnt the same as it would have been had I stayed in Calgary. Amongst the hustle and bustle of the big city I felt slow and always one step behind, in no way am I strong enough to push through crowds or fast enough to keep crazy drivers happy and off my ass. My life in Lethbridge seems so much more simple; people have the time to stop and talk and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Thinking about network from my readings this week I can`t help but think of the two cities as two completely different networks controlled by different worlds. I begin to think about the type of person I would be if I had stayed in Calgary for the last 4 years. Have I become a product of my network in Lethbridge? I don`t think i`ve changed that much in my last four years since moving but going back makes me realize that, although Calgary is without a doubt different from when I was growing up, Lethbridge has been a bubble of easy going and slow pace for me to live in. As fast as technology can make us its interesting to me that we aren`t only social actors of social media but actors in our environment and even the two networks are only a couple of hours apart they are two completely different worlds. This is obviously such a small scale and comparing even further places there would be different dynamics that are more significant. It just made me think about the countless networks that we have technologically and how vastly different those have to be when they could be comming from somewhere that is the same, or only kilometers apart. #bp
